Karen’s Lucida Dress!
Well what can I say….I LOVE this dress!! It was such an enjoyable sew! It was my first time using The Friday Pattern Company and I really like how they lay out their pattern instructions and also how they set out their size range.
The pattern comes in sizes XS-XXL and I went with the size M which corresponds with my body measurements.
As this dress is designed for knit fabrics the finished garment should end up slightly smaller as it’s designed to stretch around your body, however, this style of dress has a looser fit so it skims over your body rather than clinging to it, which I think is a nice design feature and it’s very comfortable to wear.

I absolutely love the bust detail on the bodice as it is very flattering and a lovely detail for a t-shirt style jersey dress.
The fabric I have used for this version is a gorgeous floral cotton jersey from Felicity Fabrics, which I initially had lined up for another pattern, but I think it works so well for this dress pattern. It is such a comfortable dress to wear and it feels very lightweight.
The front bodice is lined to enable you to create the channels for the ties to feed through and you can pull them as tight or as loose as you like to create your desired rouching effect. I ended up lining the back bodice too as I prefer that finish to just folding the neckline over. I did find the back of the neck a little gapey so I inserted a couple of darts to bring it in.
The skirt is of an a-line shape and the front and the back are exactly the same – just cut on the fold. The finished length of the skirt is very short so I added 4” at the shorten/lengthen lines on the pattern. I am 5ft 5”.

I am so happy with this dress. I have already been wearing it a lot and I feel very pretty in it, swanning off on the school run. It’s perfect for running around after my boys and it’s great for days out and picnics etc. I think this pattern is definitely going to be a repeater!
Happy Sewing!
