Jayne’s cosy Autumn double gauze outfit!

Hi everyone,

So, for my latest blog make I chose Double Gauze in two different designs and colours. A stunning floral broderie anglaise in burnt orange and a contrasting print with leaf sprigs and apples. The colours really work well together.

Not only am I a blogger for Felicity Fabrics but equally the lovely ladies sponsor me on my Patreon Page. Each month they kindly provide a Fabric of The Month, plus a generous discount code for my Patreon subscribers to use. With the fabric I create an exclusive ‘sew with me’ video each month for my subscribers. It is so much fun to do and I love planning the fabrics and the projects for the coming months ahead.

The FOTM for September was Double Gauze, so I chose the two fabrics with the idea of making a tiered two fabric skirt. This would also work for my next blog post too!

I realised though that as we are now well into autumn, I thought that a tiered skirt was not seasonally appropriate and possibly wouldn’t get as much wear as I had hoped over the coming months. So, with this in mind I decided to change my plans completely and make something else. That is the beauty of dressmaking, as you can create whatever you want and plans are not always set in stone. I often have an idea of what I want to make but when the fabric arrives it sometimes calls for a different creation!

Both fabrics are stunning and it didn’t take me long to decide what I was going to make with them. I used my own sewing patterns to create my ‘Cosy Autumn Outfit’. The Ava Blouse with the long sleeve option and The Poppy Pinafore, shortened to a cute top!

I had made this outfit before and I was so thrilled with it that I immediately knew that these two fabrics would create another perfect outfit. The Poppy Pinafore top in the burnt orange and the Ava Blouse in the Orchard print.

The fabric is so soft and as soon as you put it on your skin you feel super cosy and ready for the cooler months ahead.

I love working with Double Gauze as it is so easy to handle and sew with, you just have to be careful not to over handle as it can ‘grow’ slightly. It is made of two layers of cotton fabric invisibly stitched together which gives it that fluffy springy texture. Also, because it has two layers it makes for a warm and snuggly fabric and perfect for your autumn winter wardrobe.

Not only did I make the cutest autumn vibe outfit but I have also added two staple pieces to my wardrobe. The Poppy Pinafore top will work so well with different blouses and skinny rib sweaters and equally the Ava Blouse will co-ordinate with my other pinafores, skirts and jeans. A cute grandad vest over the top, boyfriend jeans and chunky boots, a perfect outfit!

There is nothing I like better than my autumn wardrobe and being able to mix and match with lots of warm layers. I often lie in bed at night planning what outfits I can create from my wardrobe for the week ahead! I especially love to ‘shop my wardrobe’ to see what new outfits I can create! I totally love this outfit and it’s just going to get so much wear, not only as a set but as individual items too!

I hope I have inspired you to sew with this stunning fabric! If you would like to see more of my exclusive creative content and Felicity Fabrics discount codes, then I would love you to join me on my Patreon Page here https://www.patreon.com/thedressmakerscloset
