Rebekah’s Cassidy Wrap top.

Hi everyone,

It is so lovely to be back with another blog post for Felicity Fabrics. They always have an array of beautiful fabrics to choose from. For this project I chose a stunning double gauze with a flowery design on it called ‘Poppy’. I love anything floral so this was just right for me.

I always generally prewash my fabric and made no exception for this one. I did however choose not to iron this one as I wanted to keep the crinkly look to it. Though I do think actually you can still iron it and wash it after it’s made for more of a crinkly look. Anyhow I pre washed at 30 and didn’t press with the iron. But each seam I did finger press it and steamed the garment at the end.

I was back and forth on what pattern to choose but then Helen’s Closet brought a new pattern out, The Cassidy Wrap Top and I was settled. It’s an intermediate pattern with a size range of 0-34. I took my measurements again to be sure, looked at the finished garment measurements and chose a size 8 to make. There are 2 sleeve lengths, 2 hem lengths and 2 styles of bow. Lightweight fabrics are ideal for this top like my double gauze but also linen, cotton, rayon, viscose and tencel twill are ok too.

I always really enjoy sewing up patterns by Helen at Helen’s Closet, they’re so clear, easy to understand whether you’re a beginner or experienced sewist.

Back to the double gauze, it is so soft and a delight to sew with. It behaves fairly well on the machine. I have made a few double gauze garments and I always find it a great fabric whatever the temperature.

In terms of the options I chose… I chose to have the shorter length and bigger bow at the back along with longer sleeves. On completion I do absolutely love the bow but I am getting used to having a feature like that on the back. It’s also surprisingly difficult to get the bow perfect when you’re wearing the top. But also I haven’t had much practice doing that.

Overall it was a really enjoyable sew. There wasn’t anything particularly hard to do, especially with such good instructions. The fabric is so pretty and feels good. Any double gauze I’ve had from Felicity Fabrics washes well and keeps its superb quality.

Thanks so much for reading 🙂
