Sally’s protea dress.
Hey everyone, hope you all have been enjoying the sunshine while it lasts.
When I saw this beauty of a fabric I knew it had to be dress from Megan Nielsen Protea capsule wardrobe. As always with packages from Felicity’s it’s always pretty and well packaged.

Protea is a loose fit woven capsule wardrobe set. The pattern features two neckline options, two sleeve options, two skirt options, darts at the bust, neckline facings, gathered skirt and anchored pockets.
View A is a dress with round neckline, gathered skirt & fitted sleeves. View B is a woven tee with square neckline & fitted sleeves. View C is a dress with square neckline, flutter sleeves, tiered gathered skirt & drawstring. View D is a woven tee with round neckline & flutter sleeves. View E is a tiered gathered skirt with elastic waistband & drawstring.
Sizes: 0-34. I choose the curvy size range of 14-34 as it caters for D cup and drafted to curves which I really appreciate and saves time of adjustments.
I love the square neckline, flutter sleeves and breezy tiered skirt. The Pattern is quite versatile as you can make either the dress, top or skirt.
For reference I cut 18 bust graded to 22 to waist then 24 for hips.
I shortened the skirt pieces by 7.5″ in total (I took off 3.5″ each tier) as the pattern is drafted for 5 foot 8!! I’m only 5 foot 1″!!

With using this fabric, it wasn’t quite wide enough on the fold to cut out my flutter sleeves. So I cut them on a single fold instead remembering to flip my pattern piece to face down so I don’t cut out 2 of the same.

Of course my little black cat Ava assisted by being a pattern weight.

Unfortunately, I haven’t got a completed dress to show you as when I returned from my relaxing holiday to Finland, I came home to a burst water pipe which ruined my downstairs including my trusty Mr Singer!!
Before leaving, I had nearly completed my garment.
All I had left to do was to make the gathered tier, attach to the bodice and sew in place but nope fate had other ideas!

But watch this space to see my completed Protea dress once I get my replacement machine through from my insurance.
So here is my half completed Protea, I’ll wear it regardless of the season as its such a pretty dress.

Happy Sewing!
